Paige & Paxton STEM Curriculum

In the mid 1990s, Rachel Williams wanted to ensure that her two young daughters were passionate about and proficient in science and math. To drive interest, she developed two puzzle piece characters to introduce these complicated concepts in a fun and engaging way.

Fast forward to 2012, Rachel and her daughters—one completing a degree in Biology and the other a rising star in the financial services industry—decided to bring the characters back to life. Since that time, the trio has been on a mission to engage a new generation of little learners in STEM and, at the same time, change the course of a nation.

Today, their team brings Paige & Paxton to life around the country through books, classroom curriculum, teacher training and pop-up experiences (STEM Make-a-thons) in major cities in the U.S. to expose educators, kids and their parents to STEM education.

THE BLUE STUDIOS STORY

"I learned a year ago when I began working under Kelley and Rachel Williams that children are smarter than we make them out to be. I urge everyone to be a part of this up and coming rock star educational model."

FAQ

Paige & Paxton Make-a-thons are dynamic, fun learning experiences that feature a full day of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) challenges for kids ages 4 to 7, based on characters and storylines from the Paige & Paxton children's book series.

Challenges are led by scientists, engineers and technologists, and there's lots of exploring, testing, breaking, making and learning!

The concept of the Make-a-thon derives from the do-it-your-self spirit of the “maker’s movement” and Silicon Valley hackathons. Here the term "hack" is used in the sense of playful, exploratory programming, not its alternate meaning as a reference to computer crime.

The foundation of both movements is showing the power of creativity and collaboration to solve pressing problems in our society.
